The billing questions worth answering up front.
Is the Team tier really free?
Yes. A single team using Recursive pays nothing — no trial, no countdown, no quiet caps on players or games. If you outgrow Team by running multiple teams, a league, or a tournament, that's when Club's flat monthly fee kicks in. If you only want one paid feature (video upload, AI insights, custom branding), you can buy that as an add-on without upgrading to Club.
What happens when I hit a cap on the Club tier?
You see a soft warning at 80% of any cap (teams, leagues, tournaments, video storage, AI insights), then a hard stop at 100%. The relevant action is blocked until you either upgrade to Club Pro or manage capacity within Club. Your monthly bill stays exactly $99 — we never auto-charge overages. You decide when to upgrade, on your schedule.
When should I upgrade from Club to Club Pro?
When the caps stop being comfortable. The most common triggers: you've added a 12th team and a 13th is on the way; you're running more than four leagues simultaneously; you've used over 80 GB of video storage in a month; you've generated more than 80 AI insight reports in a month. Club Pro is the same product without those caps, plus 7-year audit log retention, API access, and faster support response.
Can I stack a la carte add-ons?
Yes. If 25 GB of video storage isn't enough, buy a second Video Pack for another 25 GB. Same with AI Insights Packs. There's no mandatory stack limit, but if you find yourself stacking three or four packs, the bundled price inside Club ($99) often beats the stack — that's an easy upgrade path.
Do you offer annual billing?
Yes, on Club, Club Pro, Video Pack, AI Insights Pack, and Custom Branding. Annual billing saves roughly 15% off the monthly rate. The exact savings depends on the SKU. Association contracts are always annual.
Why is Streaming-as-Link free but uploaded video paid?
Different products with different cost structures. When you paste a YouTube Live or Twitch URL, the streaming infrastructure cost lives with the streaming provider — Recursive just renders the embed. Uploaded video, on the other hand, consumes our storage and processing (transcoding, analysis tooling, hosted playback), so the person uploading pays for it. The principle is consistent: we charge when a feature costs us money to deliver.
Are AI player insights available for kids?
Only with explicit guardian consent, on a per-minor basis. AI insights default to opt-out for any minor on the platform. A coach who buys an AI Insights Pack cannot run insights against an opted-out minor's data. If a coach upgrades mid-season, every roster parent is re-prompted before insights generate. This applies on Club and Club Pro too — the bundled feature doesn't bypass the consent layer.
What counts as a "team" or a "club"?
A team is one group of players with one roster and one schedule. A club is two or more teams under a shared organization — typically with league or tournament participation. If you're a coach running one U10 soccer team, you're on Team. If you coach three independent teams without a club entity, you're on Team for each (still free). If you're running a youth soccer club with eight age groups, you're on Club.
Can I start on Club and downgrade to Team later?
Yes. If your circumstances change — the club dissolves, you transfer admin to someone else, the season ends — you can move to the Team tier. Your data stays in place; you just lose access to multi-team features. Same applies to Club Pro → Club.
When does billing start?
Billing on Club and Club Pro starts the day you upgrade. Add-on billing starts when you purchase the add-on. Associations are quoted individually; billing starts per the contract. We never bill a free Team tier, ever.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your data remains accessible in read-only mode for 90 days, giving you time to export everything. After 90 days, data is purged per our retention policy — which you can review on our Privacy page. You can also export a full data archive at any time while your account is active.
Do you offer refunds?
Pro-rated refunds on Club and Club Pro if you cancel within the first 30 days. After 30 days, your subscription continues to the end of the current billing period. A la carte add-ons follow the same 30-day pro-rated refund policy. Association contracts include their own termination terms.
Can associations or districts pilot Recursive before committing?
Yes. We offer structured pilot programs for state associations, districts, and leagues of ten or more teams. Contact us to discuss scope and timeline.
